Rockell Schmidt (she/her) her advocacy journey originally began in working in healthcare and confronting international health disparities, when the 2016 and 2020 presidential campaigns ignited a new interest in policy and media relations. In her Master’s program she is collaborating with Dr. Allan Colbern on research of how the media frames US immigration with a focus on “crisis” framing. Rockell firmly believes in the transformative potential of reshaping the narrative surrounding migration and those seeking asylum. In an era marked by fake news and media bias, Rockell is determined to redefine the narrative and equip individuals with the means to counteract the perpetuation of media bias. By promoting a more accurate depiction of these situations and leveraging the compelling blend of persuasive storytelling and data-informed research, she aims to catalyze meaningful policy change.
