Framing the US-Mexico Border
Explore the politics of framing the U.S.-Mexico border by news media and find ways to partner with the Southern Borders Communities Coalition (SBCC), who launched A New Border Vision many years ago. SBCC is one of the organization speakers at the Asylum event, and the focus of their vision is to center humanity in framing the border. Our lab will explore how the news media, politicians, and organizations frame the border in their work and messaging, including differences in how organizations within the immigrant rights movement frame the border in their work to advance various components of immigrant rights (e.g., education, healthcare, safety) and fight for comprehensive reforms at the federal level. We will begin with the news and then add other kinds of data and interviews with stakeholders about the politics of framing the border.
